You Are Never Too Old To Set Another Goal....
By: Beth Berube
After looking back on the goal statements I have written just 9 short months ago, I have realized that my goals and ideas have stayed on the same path and yet are changing ever so slightly with the times. To be honest, I kind of made a rash decision when I heard about this program. I learned that I could still get some credits from my undergrad program, and work towards a second masters, so the next day I applied!
My main goal was to have the opportunity to learn new educational technologies to incorporate into my classroom and expand it to helping out the growth of my school. That goal has not necessarily changed, but I believe it has expanded. I have learned that not only are some of these technologies for educational purposes, but it is more important to look beyond and find an educational purpose for any technology. This program has really opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of educational uses for many technologies, which has pushed this goal to continue to evolve. In that aspect, our school district is going one-to-one with iPads, and I believe this ‘thinking out of the box’ motto is going to help me drive this goal in any direction it may need to go.
With the push of online learning increasing daily in education, one of my major goals was to become familiar with many different types of technology to be able to incorporate an online math class within my school. This goal has not changed, since I am currently working on trying to get a hybrid Algebra 2 class started next year. This program has helped me engage more in that goal and learn the different types of content management systems that are available to create such courses. I still hope to become more comfortable with a wide range of technology that I will be able to incorporate into my hybrid and online classes over the next few years. I think online learning is how we are working towards making a difference within education and especially within my classroom.
I think that using technology and having the students engaged with technology is a way the students are furthering their learning and increasing their education. Like anything, the best way to learn something is to try it. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with many different types of technologies within this program, that have allowed me to have more knowledge of the many options within the technological world and be able to transfer that knowledge into my teaching!
My belief is that before education can make headway in the academic challenges ahead of us, we need to change our vision on technology and the advances of technology that can further the growth of education. This has been my mission, goal, and idea from the beginning and is something that I think drives me to strive to learn more to push my goals to higher limits!
